About the Speakers:
Sandra Best
Sandra, with 49 years of nursing experience in Ontario, has evolved into a dedicated Nurse Case Manager. She has been with Excel Care since 1998, becoming a business partner in 2004 and later the sole owner in 2013. Nominated as a woman of influence by the Royal Bank of Canada in 2023, Sandra has also been honored with the Commissioner’s Citation award from the Ontario Provincial Police in 1997 and 1998 for her exceptional contributions to Victim Assistance Support Programs. In her role, Sandra develops and coordinates rehabilitation plans for individuals with traumatic injuries, covering various diagnostic groups. Her responsibilities include needs assessment, referrals, quality of life improvement, community reintegration, and coordinating various rehabilitation services. She’s also skilled in determining accommodations and compensatory strategies, as well as providing direct supervision and staff training.
My Name is Melody Hamilton, and I am the Executive Director of Elements Support Services and the Director of Services at Solus Support Services. Elements Support Services provides qualified rehabilitation support workers across Ontario. I have worked the last 30 years in Social Services field in various roles.
Prior to joining Elements and Solus Support Services. I worked as the manager of the Complex Special Needs Team, supporting young people with complex needs. I worked with a team of 8 Case Managers navigating services and we worked together to create solutions. Prior to becoming the manager of that team, I worked as a Case Manager with a caseload supporting both youth and adults.
I have also worked in program development and the building of new programs and services for children and youth and adults. I managed a large respite program in Toronto and operated residential programs. I have been involved with Ministry programs including special needs advisory table and the respite network. I sat on the board of directors for OADD and was the chair of their conference committee for many years.
I have also been involved in our company’s health and safety and have a certification in occupational health and safety as well as a degree in Social Services and a certificate in executive management. Last year I joined the BIST run committee and I am returning for my second year as a volunteer on that committee.
