The media launch of last year’s program happened at Dixie P.S., Mississauga, Ont.
The program came to Peel Region in 2008 with the purchase of the first 500 helmets
Helmets on Kids – Peel is a joint venture of the Brain Injury Association of Peel and Halton, the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association, the Peel Children’s Safety Village, Peel Regional Police, Peel Public Health and Peel District School Board. The kick off event and safety assemblies are held every June to coincide with Brain Injury Awareness Month.
Peel Helmets on Kids Community Program, 2019
Many Peel students in grades 3 and 4 will receive free bike helmets through this safety initiative co-ordinated by the Peel Children’s Safety Village. The cost of the helmets has been generously covered by members of the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association.
Schools are selected based on data from the 2014 Social Risk Index.
Each of the schools participating in the Helmets On Kids initiative will enjoy a 25 minute educational safety assembly at their school presented by Peel Children’s Safety Village staff. School staff pre-select students to receive a helmet who may not otherwise be able to acquire one.
This year’s Peel Helmets on Kids launch took place at Dixie Public School.
