Mississauga Support Group – Sept 23

Alanna Robillard will be presenting a survivor’s perspective of the RDSP – Registered Disability Savings Plan at the September Mississauga Support Group meeting.

Date:Sept 23, 2015

Time: 7:00 to 9:00PM

Location: Loblaws Heartland Market, 5970 McLaughlin Rd., The Cooking School, (Upstairs- accessible by elevator), Mississauga, ON., L5R 3X9

Presented by Alanna Robillard – BIAPH member

We’ve all heard over and over how the disabled are a drain on society, but I’m here to tell you how to fight back!  Our government is providing a surprisingly generous contribution for our financial future.  It’s called the RDSP, or Registered Disability Savings Plan.  I know we’ve had presenters before from financial institutions and governmental organizations, but I’m here to give you the truth, from a SURVIVOR’S PERSPECTIVE, what happened to me; the trials, the tribulations, the frustrations, and finally the success.

Hi, Came across your website in my search for a support group for caregivers. Have a few questions. Does your group talk about personal experiences or are the monthly meetings on specific topics only? Secondly, does anyone know of an online forum/chat site? I’m looking to talk to others about their experiences.
    Many thanks.

    Hi Natalie,
Usually there are specific topics (sometimes presentations) during the first hour of the group, and the second hour usually consists of open chat and survivors connecting and sharing their experiences. Caregivers usually separate into another group and connect during the second hour as well.

Regarding online, there is one Facebook Group called “Traumatic Brain Injury Healing and Recovery Support Group”. This link also has some info regarding some other online forums. Hope this helps! http://www.braininjurynetwork.org/braininjuryforums.html

We hope to see you at the group! Also, please Follow us on Twitter and Facebook to keep up to date on our events, support groups, etc.
